7/29/10        Yesterday the action was good but not amazing East of Chatham. Just the shear number
of boats could be having an effect on the fish. Luckily The Monomoy Shootout will be on Saturday,
a non commercial day so the fishing should pick up again. I didn't hear of anybody getting their limit
yesterday but a few people did have 12 to 15 bass in the cooler. Jigs and plastics are the way to go,
however you can't let your lures sit on the bottom for more than a second because the dogfish will
find you! Another trick you can use to keep the blue fish down to a minimum is to use black terminal
tackle, not the shiny stuff. Blues are attracted to anything that reflects light, ie. stainless or chrome
barrel or snap swivels and even fish finders.
Monomoy point has been pretty good the past 2 weeks. Live eels, sand worms and chunk bait
like bunker or mackerel work well. For lures, try Slug go's or anything similar, Swimming plugs and
spoons. If you want to troll, go with umbrella rigs or tube and worm lures. If you don't see fish on a
rip, try another. Early morning is your best time of day to fish the rips. We have seen them feeding
on squid in the rips so any squid lure or even whole real squid will work.
The tuna are still hanging around the 3 to 5 mile range. One customer hooked up with a 54
inch-er about 5 miles east of Eastham and then found some more near the BC can.
7/30/10        Well this is it everybody, The 2nd annual Monomoy Shootout is upon us! Looks like we
will be having some decent weather for tomorrow. The weather channel is calling for a sunny day with
light winds under 10 mph.  North West wind under 10 mph until about 8:00 or 9:00 am when it will
shift to the North East around 8 mph. It's pretty safe to say that fog will not be an issue!
Not that many people went out today due to the wind however the few people that did make it
out did very well. Close to the 3 mile line and East of the new cut was holding fish over 40 inches.
They were caught on diamond jigs.
At Monomoy point, high tide for tomorrow will be at 3:44 AM. The out going tide is usually the
best one to fish the rips. If you can make it to the point first and then come up to the new cut, that
should give you a good chance at getting the big boys. Once 9:00 am rolls around, the fishing seems to
slow. The fishing off the new inlet is good all day long. As long as the tide is moving you should have
no problem finding bass.
Thanks to all the people that entered the Monomoy Shootout. Good luck to all and Tight Lines!!!
